The Poems Mending Wall And Home Burial Are About Division, Both On Ess

The poems ?Mending Wall' and ?Home Burial' are about division, both on a physical level and on a mental level. ?Mending Wall' on first reading is a very simplistic poem about the annual repairing of a wall but after closer reading we can see it has a darker meaning. The poem begins with a disjointed sentence, which immediately attracts the reader's eye. ?Something there is that doesn't love a wall,' The use of the word ?Something' arouses the reader's curious nature to read on to find out what this ?Something' is. The tone of this is casual and unimposing. The author proceeds in a conversational tone speaking of the reasons to explain the breaking down of the wall. The reasons given are all quite practical but yet through these reasons we get a glimpse of the message, which the author desperately wants us to find. ?And make gaps even two can pass abreast.' Even though the poem is about division and separation we have a theme of unity in this line creeping through. The speaker expresses an awe of nature and a deep-rooted respect this is displayed in the way he talks about the breaking of the wall by nature. ?That sends the frozen-ground-swell under it And spills the upper boulders in the sun,' The use of the alliteration of the s's is very calming and the sounds create a flowing movement. ?And on a day we meet to walk the line And set the wall between us once again.' The author uses the words ?meet' and ?between us' in close proximity to each other to give the impression that although the two men work together for the same reason they are actually working alone. The wall is a barrier that both separates them and yet unifies them in the fixing of it. ?We have to use a spell to make them balance;' The use of the word spell hints at magically overtones by the author lets the reader know that all things are possible. The words ?game' and ?one on a side' further emphasize the theme of division . There is never any direct speech between the two men but yet through the speaker we learn about what the other man thinks about the wall. ?Good fences make good neighbours.' The speaker does not think the wall is necessary ?There where it is we do not need the wall.' The suggestion is always implied by the speaker but yet never spoken out loud. The author has a playful nature and through the poem it is displayed, ?Spring is the mischief in me,....' The author uses the word ?offense' as an appropriate play on words a symbol of the poem's spirit of play and freedom. The author repeats the opening line as if to reawaken the thoughts he had left behind. The speaker in the poem makes a lighthearted attempt at a suggestion for the walls breaking, ?....I could say ?Elves' to him,' even though this is humorous thought the neighbour would never think of it. It is only through the speaker's imagination that he thought of elves; the other man's thoughts are confined to reality. The speaker sees the man in a different light. He is a serious man with little time for ?flights of fantasy' the speaker describes him as an ?old-stone savage armed.' The speaker is not referring to his physically appearance but to his mind and its workings. The other man in the poem is concerned with rituals any diversion from his normal thinking is a bad thing. The creative and imaginative side of his brain lies dormant. ?He will not go behind his father's saying. And he likes having thought of it so well' The other man in the poem is trapped by work and possibly his own past as it comes to him in the words his father said. He is tied down by these words not just physically by the mending of the wall but also mentally when he takes everything on a rational level no form of escapism is applied in his life. The poem highlights two types of people in today's world. The first is represented by the speaker a man who lives by no mental boundaries. However, the vast majority of people walking among the mall were groups of young teenage girls. The mall had become the teenagers ¡Ã‚ ¯ major hangout where both males and females roamed to show themselves off to the opposite sex. I noticed an attractive teenage girl that was waiting in line to buy ice cream at the food court. The girl was approximately fifteen years old, about 5 ¡Ã‚ ¯7 ¡ tall, wearing a white cotton tank top and a pair of denim shorts. Her long, golden brown hair was tied in a tight ponytail that cascaded down the middle of her back. A pair of blue-framed sunglasses with highly reflective lenses rested delicately on the top of her head. Her blue eyes shined brightly as she looked around the mall, looking for anyone she might recognize. Her chest thrust itself out of her tank top, wanting to burst out of the thin fabric. Her skin was soft and delicate, obviously pampered by lotions, most likely bought at  ¡Ã‚ °Victoria Secret. ¡ The lower edge of her denim shorts stopped barely below her buttocks, which also seemed to burst out of the constricting garment. A pair of shapely legs, sun tanned, extended from her denim shorts, seeming to stretch forever before meeting the ground. Her feet were encased in socks and a pair of white sneakers. This girl was extremely attractive, and her attire suggested she was ready to show her attractiveness to the teenage males roaming the mall. Colored vegetables consist of chemical compounds called carotenoids which have an area known as the chromophore. It absorbs certain wavelengths of light and thus there are colored vegetables. 4) Food is cooked because of the steam that's present either in the water added or that which is present inside the food items. ) Onions make you cry due to the presence of sulfur in the cells which break after the onions are cut. Without the nursing aides, the elderly home will be like a tree without its roots. This is the group that serves the purpose of nurturing and giving utmost care and attention needed by the elderly living inside. Second, we have the group of elder persons who serves as the air that the elderly home breathes. They are the purpose why the home exists and without them, there should not have been an elderly home in the first place. Moreover, they are the center of attention in the home because of their decreased strength and special needs that have to be attended to. They are also at the center of activities in the elderly home such as in Christmas parties, gatherings, and others. Third, we have the administration that runs the elderly home. They manage the day-to-day affairs of the elderly home especially with regards to routine maintenance and those functions not covered by the nursing aides. Although they serve the elderly indirectly, they still form a vital role because they are the ones responsible for the proper functioning of the elderly home. Moreover, the administration is considered as the support system of the whole. In conclusion, it can be said that each is a part of the whole and each plays a role that whose purpose is to contribute to the family to which they are a member of. Moreover, there are relationships that are formed between these groups that form the bond between them as a family. It is all up to the members of this family to determine what type of family they would be. But certainly, it is not a negative one as most people tend to see them. Car is a perfectly suitable, utilitarian word, but so many other possibilities await the resourceful writer. The formal term, automobile, and its truncated form, auto, are useful for elegant variation, conveyance conveys a highfalutin feel, and motorcar has a vintage connotation. Meanwhile, vehicle is inclusive of other types of motorized transportation. For mock-poetic humorous effect, a writer might refer to his or her chariot or phaeton. (The latter is one of many synonyms for carriage, most of which, like phaeton, are obscure but can, given supporting syntax, be clear to the reader.) More informally, among other possible jocular references are buggy for a small, humble car and â€Å"babe magnet† (or my own clunky but precise coinage, â€Å"midlife-crisis-mobile†) for a particularly sleek, sporty car. (Of course, â€Å"babe magnet† can also be applied ironically to a car that is anything but alluring.) Words and phrases that describe the category or size of vehicle include compact, convertible, coupe, hardtop, hatchback, sedan, â€Å"sports car† (or roadster, which can have a jaunty tone in the midst of lighthearted language), â€Å"sport utility vehicle,† â€Å"station wagon,† subcompact, truck, and van. Specific car brands inspire nicknames: Beamer or Beemer (BMW), Chevy (Chevrolet), Lambo (Lamborghini). Pejorative terms include beater, bucket, clunker, crate, heap, jalopy, junker, rattletrap, and wreck. (â€Å"Gas guzzler,† meanwhile, emphasizes a car’s lack of fuel economy, and â€Å"land yacht† also indicates excessive size.) Among the celebratory slang terms are ride (an example of a verb converted to a noun) and wheels or â€Å"set of wheels† (examples of synecdoche, in which the name of a part represents the whole). Much of the media controversy emerged primarily because of the language used by media outlets when covering this event. During the first few days of the disaster, almost all of the media outlets referred to the individuals as â€Å"refugees†. However, many critics did not receive the use of this term well because it was uncommon for media outlets to use this term for citizens of the United States living within the United States.
